Sleek and modern, vibrant and lively, Sushi Rock on the Cap in the Short North is THE place to go for fresh sushi and Asian fare in Columbus.

Jon and I visited ultra-trendy Sushi Rock last night and sampled a large variety of food! To our surprise, it happened to be happy hour when we were seated (M-F 4:00-7:00 p.m.). The happy hour menu featured a large variety of sushi at $4 a roll and half-price drink specials. After looking at both the main and happy hour menus, we made out selections: I had a  glass of the house Pino Grigio, Jon had a beer (yuck!), we each got a salad, I picked the house salad and Jon chose the chopped salad, and then we ordered 3 sushi rolls: 2 California crab avocado rolls and 1 shrimp California roll. However, it was hard to narrow down our sushi picks, as the sushi menu is extensive, to say the least.

While waiting on our food, we soaked in the restaurant’s eye-catching interior. Sleek black furniture with white touches made the space feel upscale, while the red lights of the bar and chandeliers made the space pop. The red touches gave the interior a modern, downtown-vibe. In addition to the bright colors that grabbed our attention, the restaurant was full of varying levels, dinning sections and modern bars to watch sushi be prepared. Sushi Rock was definitely designed to entice the senses.

Similar to the space’s interior, the food did not disappoint. While I enjoyed my house salad (mixed greens with a ginger-sesame dressing), I thought Jon’s chopped salad (mixed greens, feta, red onions and a red wine vinaigrette) had a bit more flavor and texture. But, in the realm of life, both were great! As for the main event, the sushi, it was fabulous! Both California varieties (crab and shrimp) were fresh and delicious. The crab roll was loaded with soft avocado and crab, making it very filling, while the shrimp roll was stuffed with shrimp, carrots and drizzled with a sweet soy sauce. AMAZING! However, if you are looking for a heavier option, Sushi Rock does offer a a variety of steak and seafood entrees.

Jon and I thoroughly enjoyed our dinning experience at Sushi Rock! Judging by the huge crowd of people continuously piling in, Sushi Rock is THE place to be on a Friday night! For fresh sushi in a vibrant and hip atmosphere, check out Sushi Rock Columbus!
